Rare and unusual zinc or spelter metal figural elephant head gas light fixture. Heavy architectural piece was wall mounted for gas lighting. Flame would have come out of the elephant’s trunk with the gas line coming directly through the wall, so this is only the hollow fixture. Â Traces of original green paint remain. Old untouched surface. Mounting hole at base. Weighs 1.5lbs. Â A rare and interesting piece of Victorian lighting. Possibly used in a brothel or saloon.
Date: 1860 – 1880s
Size: Â 6″ diameter. About 6″ to trunk .
Condition: Expected aging. Few old paint and glue splatters. Roughness and old glue at end of trunk. Looks like some solder was added there a long time ago.
