Outstanding ornate steel candlesnuffer. Scrolled handles are spring loaded to stay closed when not in use. Three applied feet. The pointed end could be used to remove excess wax from a candle socket. Excellent old mellow surface patina on this well made early lighting accessory.
Modern candle wicks are consumed by flames, but 18th century wicks accumulated charred remains, which could be removed by a scissor-like snuffer of this style. The remains would be cut, ending up inside the arched wick box, and could then easily be disposed of into the fireplace without addition cleanup.
