Incised Lion Flagon
Z890
Superb folk art redware/stoneware flagon or mug. Likely English or Scottish. Incised with a rather menacing interpretation of a royal lion. Fantastic details and character. The maker’s fingerprints are everywhere. Note the right eye in particular.
The clay is red with some white striations and could qualify as redware, though heavy like stoneware. Weighs over 2lbs. Nice old surface. A real looker.
Date: Early 19th century.
Size: 8 1/4″ tall.
Condition: Overall great with expected aging and light toning in spots. In-making blemishes, but no actual damage of note. Please use photos and description to determine condition.
