Fantastic set of folk art whimsy utensils. Each piece is hand carved bone and has a number of free moving balls in cages. An added bonus is that while the utensils are close to the same size the caged balls in each piece are in graduated sizes from small to tiny. Very labor intensive to create such objects. Excellent untouched mellow surface patinas. Great detailing. Superb examples. Whimsies are typically done in wood, and it is quite rare to find any in bone, much less a matching set of three.
I was told that they were POW (poss. Civil War) made, but have no concrete evidence to confirm. It is plausible, and the time period fits, so I’m including the info in the description as a possibility. Regardless, they are way cool pieces of folk art.
