Nicely crafted Colonial period primitive hetchel.
Linen Hetchel were used to separate the long flax fibers so they could be spun on a flax wheel. The typical Colonial farmstead raised its own flax for linen.
Wrought iron on an oak board. Wonderful old untouched surfaces. Great 18th century country piece.
Date: Mid to late 18th century
Size:  17 1/2″  x  5″  x  5″
Condition: Â Few missing or partial teeth. Minor losses to two corners of sheet metal casing on top of platform.
