1876 Centennial Noise Maker
H95
Superb all original Centennial souvenir noise maker. Turned hardwood handle is flanked by matching sets of three flat panels that still clack just as designed some 140+ years ago. Four colorful and patriotic labels offer a full description: “CENTENNIAL” “CASTANET” “1776 1876” “PATENTED Aug. 3 1875″Â On the side of one panel is “MAY 30” in pencil. It can be assumed that this item was purchased on that day in 1876. Pretty cool to have the whole story with this amazing survivor. Perhaps a parent quickly decided to hide the noisy little object, and it was tucked away and forgotten, thus explaining its remarkable state of preservation.
