Superb primitive wrought iron trammel for use in the fireplace when cooking. Numerous holes allow the trammel to adjust from a span of about 17″. Early heavy construction. Weighs 5.5lbs. Decorative scribed lines on back. Nicely scrolled hanger. Sweet old mellow surface. A similar example is seen in George Neumann’s, Early American Antique Country Furnishings (p166, plate 724).
Date: 1650-1740.
