Superb two century old folk art cigar case. Likely Prisoner of War made during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century. Outstanding original surface. Original green paper liner. Tight as the when it was made. Paper mache body skillfully covered with a masterfully executed and designed pattern. Created by overlaying and gluing hundreds of tiny cut and dyed pieces of straw. Imagine the infinite patience and time it took to make this object. Quite often during this period, prisoners were allowed to create objects to be sold. This is quite possibly an example of such a piece. In any case, a fantastic relic.
