Excellent cast metal (spelter) lion. Hard to determine whether this was made as a decorative figure, a toy, or a paperweight. Whatever its original purpose, this is such a cool object. Amazing detail. Superb original paint with nice worn patina (which suggests its use as a toy or paperweight, both of which would have meant lots of handling). Marked “GERMANY” on base. The piece is hollow, but still weighs nearly 1.5lbs. A sweet example. Grrr.
