Brass Coal or Ember Shovel

E67

Wonderful early make-do coal or ember shovel. Long ago, the heavy riveted brass shovel had its original (and longer) turned wood handle replaced with a short primitive oak one. It was used for many years in this state. The size would have been ideal for transferring embers or coals from the hearth to bed and foot warmers, among many other things that required such a utensil. The surfaces indicate frequent and continual use over many years. Weighs slightly under a pound. Wonderful character on this still useful survivor.
