Distinctive cast iron figural boot jack in the form of a mid-19th century percussion pistol. This type of pistol was sometimes referred to as a “boot Pistol,” because it could be easily concealed within a man’s boot. No doubt, this was part of the reason for it’s use in the design of a boot jack. Marked on both sides, “THE AMERICAN/ BULL DOG/ BOOT JACK.” Retains a good amount of the original black paint. Nice old mellow patina on this sweet piece. Weighs one pound.
