Superb collection of wrought iron travelers. These devices were used for measuring – a sort of primitive tape measure of the times. It would be common that a carpenter or other craftsman might own a number of different travelers of varying sizes, such as these. Uniquely designed, each has a particular feature that sets it apart from the other.

The largest has an open looped handle. The middle one has an unusual disc design with holes for more precise measurement. Additionally , the blacksmith who made it added a bit of style with the twisted handle. The smallest and simplest one has a shaft made for slip-on wooden handles of different lengths.  It also has an inscribed pointer line on the rim. All are in excellent untouched condition with great old surfaces. A perfect trio of 18th century tools.
