18th Century Wrought Iron Peel
E122

Excellent wrought iron peel, used for removing ashes and bread from the hearth, and for browning meats. These early utilitarian pieces were rarely signed, and this one has a boldly stamped “M.H.” maker’s mark. Black paint remains on on upper handle, which exhibits a nice mellow patina from years of handling. The lower part of the shaft and the blade show a rougher heat-exposed patina, as they should. Hanger bar at top. This big boy weighs slightly over 5.5lbs. A great early signed example.
