18th Century Make-Do Wrought Iron Toasting Fork

Unique folk art crafted make-do wrought iron figural insect toasting folk. The central part of this amazing creation is formed from an earlier door strap hinge. Likely, a customer provided the hinge to the blacksmith to reduce the final price. Penny feet, one with numerous dots. A fantastically ingenious design on this over sized gem. Discovered at a family estate sale in the Carolinas. Excellent old mellow surface on this whimsical primitive country example. Included is a similar type of strap hinge.


Date: 18th century.


Size: 19″ long. 8.5″ wide. 4.5″ tall.


Condition: Overall excellent. There is an old manufacturing split on one of the tines. It is stable, and does not go all the way through.
