1780-1820 Tin & Iron Sand Weighed Candle Stand



Superb early nineteenth century piece of lighting. Traces of old green paint. Sand weighted sheet metal base weighs about 5.5lbs. It includes a socket with a hand wrought and threaded screw that allows the shaft to be adjusted and removed. Hand wrought tin sliding tray with double candle holders and a nicely designed curved handle that allows the tray to slide up and down the entire length of the rod. This design allows the three parts to be separated – please note that this is how the piece will be shipped for safety.

Designed to be used in a number of ways. It could be hung from above, or used as a table top or floor model. All modes allowed for adjustable lighting with the use of the slide. A fantastically versatile piece of centuries old American lighting.

Size: Up to 46″ tall. Tray is 8″  x  5 1/4″  x  .  ” diameter base.





Condition: Expected aging and wear. Old dent to base rim. Minor age holes in base – One requires a small piece of tape to contain the sand (will be shipped this way). As-Is. Please use photos and description to determine condition.
