Sweet Colonial period country Chippendale foot stool. Hand planed pine boards. Mortised construction. Square nails used for decorative molding. Splayed sides and scrolled design typical of this style. Awesome worn top board. “Freshened up” with paint and a few round nails some time in the 1910-20′s (see close up photo of molding for both original and later period nail examples). The stool continued in use, and now exhibits a nice old mellow patina. In any case, not too many original 18th century foot stools around here in the 21st century in any condition.
